211 Day to Night

It is bright outside. Sophia is resting on the bed, dozing. The bedroom-door bursts open. Lisa rushes in and shakes her sister awake.

“What is it?” Sophia looks concerned.

“Take me away from here!” Lisa is anguished.

“Why?” says Sophia, quietly, while stroking Lisa’s hair to comfort her.

“I know where David is. Where They get those who are no longer hungry. In the big room with black columns.”

“How do we get back in the House?” Sophia asks.

“We can’t while it is daylight,” is Lisa’s reply.

“What? Is there a way to make the night come? Is there? Is there Lisa?” Sophia grips the girl by the shoulders to emphasize the urgency of the question being asked.

“Yes, Iris has to die,” says the child, with a fearful expression on her face.

Later ...

Iris is standing by the Loch. She is talking to herself. There is intensity in her words.

“Don’t make this mistake. Don’t, you’ll lose everything. The house reunited both of you here. Accept it. Accept the house!”

Sophia is walking towards her, with purpose. She has a mean look on her face, and a poker in her hand, as she strides along the edge of the loch. Lisa is following on, a few yards behind. Sophia is now just three feet away from Iris. She raises the poker above her head and prepares to strike Iris down with one powerful blow. Iris gives her a penetrating stare of defiance. Sophia momentarily hesitates. Iris strikes Sophia, viciously, on the face. Sophia hits the ground. She gets back up. Iris lashes out with a double-blow, this time, to Sophia’s head. Sophia falls to the ground again.

Iris now has Sophia pinned to the ground. She repeatedly shouts “You have to accept the house!” while trying to throttle Sophia. Sophia is struggling to breath. Lisa quietly walks up to them both. Iris looks up, then begins to get up. Iris releases her hold on Sophia who is coughing and spluttering and trying to catch a breath.

“And you … you need to be taught a lesson!” Iris grabs a hold of Lisa and pulls her into the water. “Sophia. Sophia!” the girl shouts for help. Iris pushes Lisa under the water. “Where we found you!” she shouts. With all her strength, Iris holds Lisa’s head under the water. Her eyes are looking crazed with determination.

Sophia hears the struggle and gets up from the ground, and heads towards Iris, whose eyes are now turning black with rage. Sophia picks up a big stone and whacks it right off the head of Iris who is in no position to defend herself as she has her back to Sophia while attempting to drown Lisa. Two full-impact hits disable Iris completely, and she floats away in the current.
