10 Entering the House

While at work, Sophia gets an unexpected telephone call.

“I don’t understand, whose inheritance?” she says to the lawyer on the other end of the phone. “The house opposite mine? Where the body was found? But I don’t know them? And he died thirty years ago, right?

Later on that day Sophia sits in front of the lawyer. He is behind a big desk full of documents.

“There must be a reason,” he says. “A distant relative? Your family knew him?

“I don’t have any family,” says Sophia.

"Listen, I don’t know. He was my predecessor’s client. The keys were dropped off thirty years ago. The keys, and a will, to be read on 1st May 2019. The will says to open the house. That’s how we found him. You’re sure you didn’t know him?”

“Yes.”

“The will is valid and legal. Here’s your name.” He shows her the document.

“Weird …” She shakes her head. “It says John-11-08 and a symbol. What is that?” she asks.

“It could be a biblical reference. Maybe he was religious,” says the lawyer.

Sophia looks at the document sceptically, and taps her fingers on the desk. “What do I inherit?”

“The house!” says the lawyer.
