Anna meets the local priest, to discuss the gravestone.

The priest tells Anna the story of the disappearance of a little girl. All the village searched for her, but she was never found. They thought, perhaps, she fell through the ice. But when spring came, and the ice melted, no body was ever found. She was just seven. The family gravestone never had her name on it. They were ever hopeful that she was not dead, and would reappear. The priest told Anna to leave the whole matter alone. Not to pursue it.
