1. Our prices for PRINT PRODUCTS can often be the lowest available in Scotland for long runs of leaflet or brochure printing.
2. If you wish us to dedicate our TIME, resources, or skilled-input, to your project then we charge £15 per hour which is roughly about a third of the standard graphic-design charge of about £40 to £45 per hour often quoted on websites. Design Agencies can easily charge £60 to £80 an hour. We don't.
This means, if you use our service, you are pretty-much guaranteed good value-for-money for your printing package. Something we are all looking for.

QUOTE
Get in touch if you want a cost-saving quote for any print product, any quantity. It is likely that our price will please you. What we need to know in order to give you a specific quote for a custom product is: (1) Your exact specification, that is: product size, paper weight, quantity, amount of pages, any folding etc., and (2) whether you are providing the completed artwork file for us to use without adjustment, or whether you are providing bits and bobs of photos, text, logos and other graphic elements which will need to be compiled into a format for printing. In this second case an exact price can only be determined when we actually see what working-material you are providing us with. If we don't have this information then we will quote you for the printed material only.
DEAL-MAKING
We can do a deal with you if you wish? There are quite a number of sources of printing available, but how do you know who to use? We can provide you with the best price for print if you like. That is, the cheapest price for what you want. We will only set one condition for this deal. The condition is that we do your artwork set-up for you. We charge approximately one-third of the standard charge for general layout and typesetting and we charge around half of what a Design Agency charges for higher-level, complex, or original graphic work which requires industry experience and creative flair. The benefits to you are as follows: (1) You get the best quality and cheapest print available without having to search around, and (2) You also get the best price for the artwork and graphic component of any job. How's that for a good deal!
AUTOMATIC?
It's worth bearing in mind that all online "automatic" printing services are entirely dependent on the customer providing the printer with a print-ready artwork file. If you choose to "design online" then, not only will you meet many limitations, your finished job will probably look quite similar to other people's print as standard templates and graphics are usually used. It may also be very time-consuming to use online design features and they can have an inflexibility of creativity. The final factor here is you'll still probably pay a lot more than what we charge anyway when delivery and any "extras" are added to the initial price. Essentially, you get what you pay for. "You get owt for nowt" as a Yorkshireman would say!

There can be a genuine risk here if you don't really know who exactly you are dealing with.

SAVINGS
We will save you both time and money. Time being the most valuable commodity, of course. We can do this because we have specialised equipment and also some measure of skill and experience to draw upon (very important). We've already done all the background research, trained ourselves up, and bought the expensive "kit", so you don't have to!

We have some of the lowest prices obtainable for printed material, often HALF the price of our nearest UK competitor with our SPECIAL DAILY DEALS. (in some cases we charge about 25% of the price of our competitors, particularly on our longer runs of 10,000+).
Also, our ARTWORK SET-UP charges are roughly about 30% of the normal standard charge that most other web-based printers set, which is usually around £40 per hour (we charge £15). Design Agencies set graphic prices at £60 to £80 an hour, often more (In the city of Aberdeen the most common quote for what is generally known as "computer time" is £60 per hour + VAT. This is the cost allocated to image-adjustment, origination, or graphic design).
DELIVERY
A lot of UK companies do, but we don't charge any extra for delivery to the Highlands or the Moray Firth for example. Sometimes we offer free delivery. If we do charge to deliver your print then the maximum amount is £5.95. (e.g. There is an online printer who boast of their cheap prices but actually charge £30 + VAT for delivery of just one set of business cards to the Moray Firth).
We are particularly economic when it comes to large print quantities. You will always get your run of PRINTED MATERIAL at the best prices (regardless of any artwork, set-up, or origination costs). This means that if you ordered 100,000 leaflets from us, for example, you could be saving yourself (or your company) a small fortune. And anyway, our initial set-up and artwork charges, if required, are modest to say the least.
ARTWORK
Printed material is the paper-and-ink product which you feel in your hand. Design is the layout and graphic-image that you actually see on the page. ARTWORK SET-UP is the process of gathering together (or generating from scratch) the appropriate text, maps, tables, graphs, photos, graphics, fonts, logos etc. and positioning these components together is a format that looks stylish and professional, "selling" your message, and technically meeting the specifications for the printing press. Most online printers require you to supply the technically-correct artwork in a format for them to automatically process the job through their system. If you don't have this artwork available then they will make a charge for time to set-up the artwork (typically £40 per hour + VAT) or even make a charge to "check" that the artwork you have provided is suitable for their system (typically £16 to £18 + VAT). Artwork charges are based on the cost of the human input (often involving adjusting or editing raw material) to produce the printable file. It involves the use of skill, judgement, knowledge and the right software and hardware. Design Agencies often set a daily rate of £350 to £450 + VAT.
SOFTWARE
An example of professional software would be Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop, Acrobat Professional, Indesign or Illustrator. Examples of the hardware required would be a calibrated professional-standard monitor and a professional proof-printer (a full version of Illustrator & Photoshop, an NEC Spectraview monitor and an Epson R3000 printer would cost around £4100 for the four items). Calibration instrumentation and software for a monitor costs in the region of £300. You would also need to colour-profile the proof-printer to your paper stock and to match the monitor. A proper design and proofing system would therefore cost about £4500 before any knowledge or skill is applied.
PAPER & INK
We keep in stock around 30 different types of commercial paper, 5 types of Fine Art paper, 10 types of photographic paper, 5 types of card, 8 types of label material and 2 types of canvas, including 100% cotton rag (in various sizes up to 19" x 13") amounting to a value of about £15,000. If we replaced the full set of ink cartridges on our HP and Epson printers (we have 8 in total) it would cost us around £1800 (the hardware itself costs around £17,400).
IMAGE LIBRARY, SCANNERS & FINISHING EQUIPMENT
Our expenditure on imaging software in the past ten years amounts to about £8,000. And we also have an extensive font library and font-creation software. We use a photographic version of Optical Character Recognition (OCR) rather than a flatbed scanner which has its limitations. We have captured about 5000 professional-standard images over the past 10 years (spending 2500 hours of dedicated time) which have a value of at least £25,000 (at a nominal amount of £5 an image although some individual photographs have cost us several hundred pounds to capture). A one-day shoot to produce images of a high standard can cost us £1000 - £2000. We hire all our studio cameras, lighting and lenses as we don't use them every day. For landscape photography we use an Olympus Tough 8000 digital waterproof compact and a 35-year old Olympus OM10 film camera (respective costs: £300 and £30 second-hand). We also use a Martin Yale creaser, booklet maker, saddle-stitcher and folder, 3 separate Avery guillotines, a Swordfish laminator, 3 Dahle and 2 Fara trimmers, A Dimage helical drum scanner, a Nikon Coolscan 5000ED film scanner and a Canon 48bit flatbed scanner (this bunch of kit costs around £9800).
BENEFITS
You'll get the benefit of all this kit without having to pay for it directly as we only charge you for paper and ink, not to recover the cost of our investment in materials, software and equipment. If we charge you for time it is because we are actually spending our time on your project.
LOW PRICES
So how do we keep our printing prices so low? We have been steadily investing for 10 years and all our printing equipment is owned outright and so we have Low Overheads and Low Running Costs; that converts to Low Costs of Production. It's as simple as that. We don't have to recover OUR high running expenses from YOU, the customer. Any business-cost to us would inevitably have to be recovered in the prices we charge and so we make sure we don't incur unnecessary expenses. We started our company from scratch and structured it to run at a low-cost base. This is crucial. A lot of companies have too many running expenses (e.g. leased equipment, interest payments, maintenance contracts, junior and senior staff, premises, building-structure and contents insurance, public liability insurance, credit-card security and transaction fees, business loans, overdraft fees, web-site design & maintenance costs, rent, business rates, sales, marketing & advertising costs, vehicle, fuel and energy costs, general bank charges, accounting fees, other professional fees, Limited Company costs, director's drawings etc.) which will be reflected in their pricing. We don't. We avoid (or keep to a bare minimum) just about every one of those listed costs, and we also do our own company accounts to further save money. This is good news for you as this means that if you buy from us you are only really paying for paper, ink and a modest amount for our time. Any money we do make, we invariably spend locally.
We tend to work at a high print-resolution of 7200dpi using permanent inks and high-grade paper which can often produce better quality than CMYK offset lithographic printing. It is worth noting that there can be wide variations in print quality even if companies are using the same equipment. Print finish can look a bit muted or "flat" unless the system is optimally adjusted. Low-grade paper and inks save costs, but can result in dull print that lacks "punch". We often see examples of this as we regularly use our test files to make comparisons of reproduction quality. Photographs almost always require contrast, colour, sharpness, and tonal-range adjustment, to make sure they look good on the final print-output. We calibrate our monitors each day.

Most online printers require you to supply the technically-correct artwork in a format for them to automatically process the job through their system. If you don't have this artwork available then they will make a charge for time to set-up the artwork (typically £40 per hour + VAT) or even make a charge to "check" that the artwork you have provided is suitable for their system (typically £16 to £18 + VAT). Artwork charges are based on the cost of the human input (often involving adjusting or editing raw material) to produce the printable file. It involves the use of skill, judgement, knowledge and the right software and hardware. Design Agencies often set a daily rate of £350 to £450 + VAT.
SOFTWARE
An example of professional software would be Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop, Acrobat Professional, Indesign or Illustrator. Examples of the hardware required would be a calibrated professional-standard monitor and a professional proof-printer (a full version of Illustrator & Photoshop, an NEC Spectraview monitor and an Epson R3000 printer would cost around £4100 for the four items). Calibration instrumentation and software for a monitor costs in the region of £300. You would also need to colour-profile the proof-printer to your paper stock and to match the monitor. A proper design and proofing system would therefore cost about £4500 before any knowledge or skill is applied.
PAPER & INK
We keep in stock around 30 different types of commercial paper, 5 types of Fine Art paper, 10 types of photographic paper, 5 types of card, 8 types of label material and 2 types of canvas, including 100% cotton rag (in various sizes up to 19" x 13") amounting to a value of about £15,000. If we replaced the full set of ink cartridges on our HP and Epson printers (we have 8 in total) it would cost us around £1800 (the hardware itself costs around £17,400).
IMAGE LIBRARY, SCANNERS & FINISHING EQUIPMENT
Our expenditure on imaging software in the past ten years amounts to about £8,000. And we also have an extensive font library and font-creation software. We use a photographic version of Optical Character Recognition (OCR) rather than a flatbed scanner which has its limitations. We have captured about 5000 professional-standard images over the past 10 years (spending 2500 hours of dedicated time) which have a value of at least £25,000 (at a nominal amount of £5 an image although some individual photographs have cost us several hundred pounds to capture). A one-day shoot to produce images of a high standard can cost us £1000 - £2000. We hire all our studio cameras, lighting and lenses as we don't use them every day. For landscape photography we use an Olympus Tough 8000 digital waterproof compact and a 35-year old Olympus OM10 film camera (respective costs: £300 and £30 second-hand). We also use a Martin Yale creaser, booklet maker, saddle-stitcher and folder, 3 separate Avery guillotines, a Swordfish laminator, 3 Dahle and 2 Fara trimmers, A Dimage helical drum scanner, a Nikon Coolscan 5000ED film scanner and a Canon 48bit flatbed scanner (this bunch of kit costs around £9800).

You'll get the benefit of all this kit without having to pay for it directly as we only charge you for paper and ink, not to recover the cost of our investment in materials, software and equipment. If we charge you for time it is because we are actually spending our time on your project.
LOW PRICES
So how do we keep our printing prices so low? We have been steadily investing for 10 years and all our printing equipment is owned outright and so we have Low Overheads and Low Running Costs; that converts to Low Costs of Production. It's as simple as that. We don't have to recover OUR high running expenses from YOU, the customer. Any business-cost to us would inevitably have to be recovered in the prices we charge and so we make sure we don't incur unnecessary expenses. We started our company from scratch and structured it to run at a low-cost base. This is crucial. A lot of companies have too many running expenses (e.g. leased equipment, interest payments, maintenance contracts, junior and senior staff, premises, building-structure and contents insurance, public liability insurance, credit-card security and transaction fees, business loans, overdraft fees, web-site design & maintenance costs, rent, business rates, sales, marketing & advertising costs, vehicle, fuel and energy costs, general bank charges, accounting fees, other professional fees, Limited Company costs, director's drawings etc.) which will be reflected in their pricing. We don't. We avoid (or keep to a bare minimum) just about every one of those listed costs, and we also do our own company accounts to further save money. This is good news for you as this means that if you buy from us you are only really paying for paper, ink and a modest amount for our time. Any money we do make, we invariably spend locally.
We tend to work at a high print-resolution of 7200dpi using permanent inks and high-grade paper which can often produce better quality than CMYK offset lithographic printing. It is worth noting that there can be wide variations in print quality even if companies are using the same equipment. Print finish can look a bit muted or "flat" unless the system is optimally adjusted. Low-grade paper and inks save costs, but can result in dull print that lacks "punch". We often see examples of this as we regularly use our test files to make comparisons of reproduction quality. Photographs almost always require contrast, colour, sharpness, and tonal-range adjustment, to make sure they look good on the final print-output. We calibrate our monitors each day.

PROFESSIONAL-QUALITY FULL COLOUR PRINTING
The final look of any printed material entirely depends on the technical and aesthetic quality (i.e. sharpness, tonal range, lighting and image balance) of the original graphics and photography. To get the best from colour printing it is essential that any artwork or origination has to be adjusted to suit the printing process. If this is not done the results can be disappointing as the printing process will not make any corrections. It is a case of you get back out a multi-copy of what you originally put in. We normally do test proofs to ensure that the final quality matches our expectations. Images displayed on a standard PC monitor, tablet or laptop etc. will not normally be truly representative of ink-and-paper outputs.
ARTWORK
Our general printing prices below are based on being provided with "press-ready" artwork (see our TECHNICAL GUIDE section). If you are able to do this then there will be NO charge for TIME. This is our aim. However, if we have to set up your artwork for you then we may make a charge, it just depends on how time-consuming (or complex) this is for us. Sometimes we offer FREE DESIGN on certain products - see our SPECIAL OFFERS.
PRINTING TIPS
We use an NEC Spectraview 2690 professional monitor which is colour profiled for CMYK 4-colour lithographic printing and 9-colour photographic printing. We also view our monitor under controlled ambient lighting. Therefore, what we see on our screen closely correlates to our print outputs. It is not really possible to adjust graphics or photographs for ink-and-paper output without an accurately calibrated monitor. There are many reasons why printed outputs don't come out as expected (often photos are printed way too dark, for example) but setting up graphic files, without being able to see them accurately in the first place, is probably the main reason printed material can sometiimes come out "flat"or "dull" looking. Other reasons for print output problems are: not allowing for "bleed" and trimming (when images print off the edge of the paper) when setting up objects on the page, selecting colours that are unprintable with ink (even although they display ok on an RGB monitor) and information about fonts, transparency, and other graphic effects, being lost in file conversion from jpeg, eps, png etc to industry-standard press-ready PDF. Low-resolution images (72 or 96ppi) obtained from websites produce poor and fuzzy results if used for printing onto paper. Graphics need to be at least 300ppi to look sharp on the page. Vector-based images (e.g. eps files) are scaleable and resolution-independent, whereas pixel-based images (e.g. jpeg files) will get "jaggy" and "blocky" when enlarged.
TIME
Our typesetting and layout time is usually charged at about £15 an hour. Professional-level graphic work (drawing on 20 years of industry "creative" experience) would be around £25-£30 per hour (depending on the complexity or originality of the work required). (For reference: online printers usually charge around £40 + VAT per hour for standard graphic design. However, although possible, it is unlikely that the person tasked with the graphic work is a "creative" with 20 years of experience in corporate branding and packaging design). Graphic Design work is subject to VAT.
Just to be clear, when we say "Professional Graphic Design" we mean the type of work generally only available from a Design Agency which is often charged at £80 to £100 per hour + VAT (or sometimes a lot more). We have very low overheads and so can provide exactly the same standard of design without having to charge YOU a high price.

PROFESSIONAL-QUALITY FULL COLOUR PRINTING
The final look of any printed material entirely depends on the technical and aesthetic quality (i.e. sharpness, tonal range, lighting and image balance) of the original graphics and photography. To get the best from colour printing it is essential that any artwork or origination has to be adjusted to suit the printing process. If this is not done the results can be disappointing as the printing process will not make any corrections. It is a case of you get back out a multi-copy of what you originally put in. We normally do test proofs to ensure that the final quality matches our expectations. Images displayed on a standard PC monitor, tablet or laptop etc. will not normally be truly representative of ink-and-paper outputs.
ARTWORK
Our general printing prices below are based on being provided with "press-ready" artwork (see our TECHNICAL GUIDE section). If you are able to do this then there will be NO charge for TIME. This is our aim. However, if we have to set up your artwork for you then we may make a charge, it just depends on how time-consuming (or complex) this is for us. Sometimes we offer FREE DESIGN on certain products - see our SPECIAL OFFERS.
PRINTING TIPS
We use an NEC Spectraview 2690 professional monitor which is colour profiled for CMYK 4-colour lithographic printing and 9-colour photographic printing. We also view our monitor under controlled ambient lighting. Therefore, what we see on our screen closely correlates to our print outputs. It is not really possible to adjust graphics or photographs for ink-and-paper output without an accurately calibrated monitor. There are many reasons why printed outputs don't come out as expected (often photos are printed way too dark, for example) but setting up graphic files, without being able to see them accurately in the first place, is probably the main reason printed material can sometiimes come out "flat"or "dull" looking. Other reasons for print output problems are: not allowing for "bleed" and trimming (when images print off the edge of the paper) when setting up objects on the page, selecting colours that are unprintable with ink (even although they display ok on an RGB monitor) and information about fonts, transparency, and other graphic effects, being lost in file conversion from jpeg, eps, png etc to industry-standard press-ready PDF. Low-resolution images (72 or 96ppi) obtained from websites produce poor and fuzzy results if used for printing onto paper. Graphics need to be at least 300ppi to look sharp on the page. Vector-based images (e.g. eps files) are scaleable and resolution-independent, whereas pixel-based images (e.g. jpeg files) will get "jaggy" and "blocky" when enlarged.
TIME
Our typesetting and layout time is usually charged at about £15 an hour. Professional-level graphic work (drawing on 20 years of industry "creative" experience) would be around £25-£30 per hour (depending on the complexity or originality of the work required). (For reference: online printers usually charge around £40 + VAT per hour for standard graphic design. However, although possible, it is unlikely that the person tasked with the graphic work is a "creative" with 20 years of experience in corporate branding and packaging design). Graphic Design work is subject to VAT.
Just to be clear, when we say "Professional Graphic Design" we mean the type of work generally only available from a Design Agency which is often charged at £80 to £100 per hour + VAT (or sometimes a lot more). We have very low overheads and so can provide exactly the same standard of design without having to charge YOU a high price.
CUSTOM-MADE PRODUCTS
We are here to help you get the best from printing. Give us a call if you need advice! We print onto around 30 different types of material using several different printing methods and inks.
VALUE FOR MONEY
We have very low running costs. Therefore, it is likely that we will be able to provide some of the best value-for-money around because we don't have to recover high business overhead costs when we set our final product price.

With our graphic capabilities, photographic libraries, and professional-standard equipment we are likely to be able to produce higher-quality products cheaper than you could ever do with your own desktop equipment - saving you time. effort and money.
